A friendly rural community pub and real ale promoter on the only village green in Cornwall. Voted three times Cornwall CAMRA Pub of the Year and in 2001 becoming the campaign’s national Pub of the Year, it has clocked up well over 3000 different real ales, and also runs an annual ‘Mild Month’ festival in May when many mild ales from around the country are featured. The décor is eclectic, and includes barometers, toby jugs and coffee mugs as well as an impressive collection of pump clips and beer mats. The food is made from local produce, but it is wise to book ahead as meals are popular. There are two regular beers, house brands called Bulldog and Buddha and both brewed by Sharp’s Brewery, also up to five ever-changing beers, at least two from Cornish breweries. The cider also constantly changes and often includes a lesser-known concoction or two. The pub is popular with walkers and cyclists on the nearby Camel Trail.
